Why We Must Stop Drinking Bottled Water

"A four-year review of the bottled water industry in the U.S. and the safety standards that govern it, including independent testing of over 1,000 bottles of water found that there is no assurance that just because water comes out of a bottle it is any cleaner or safer than water from the tap. In fact tap water is tested more frequently than bottled water."

Bernie Sanders responds to abortion question at Liberty University

American Graffiti

Found this over at BrainSpank and thought it was a very interesting take on the Immigration issue that seems to be the cornerstone of the Republican agenda right now.

AMERICAN GRAFITTI
by Michael Douglass
Immigration is not a problem in America.
It is not an issue.
It never has been.
Ever.
It’s not a deficit in any way.
It’s a goddamn net positive for all of us.
It always has been.
What it is now, is what it always has been.
A deliberately organized, thoroughly pernicious distraction.
No immigrant has ever stolen a job from an American.
Teabilly fucks should be grateful for the brown folks because without them their colons would  be bound up like mummified sausages.  Their rectums would be like packed with concrete for not being able to afford roughage in their diet.  Brown people are the only reason these miscreants can afford to supplement their ramen, spaghettio and pancake diets with fiber in the form of leafy greens, vegetables and grains so they can take a decent crap in whatever they recognize as a toilet.
Build a wall.
Fuck me that’s stupid.
When was the last time a goddamn wall worked?
Lord of The Rings?
You wanna end it?  Go after the fat white business owners who exploit the slave labor.  They capitalize the profits and socialize the losses and  never miss an opportunity to propagate the xenophobic hatred.  Demonizing the poor brown folks and their wives and children is the only way to insure they get to abuse the help at restaurants, hotels and on cruises and still turn a profit.
Assholes.
We don’t need a northern border because they understand we’re fucking nuts and want no part of this.  Pretty soon they will need a wall.
Nevermind that Mexican immigration is at damn near net zero and the only reason anyone from south of our border ever wanted to come here is to flee the horrific conditions that American greed and lust created in their countries in the first place.
We complain they breed irresponsibly but never acknowledge that it’s because we forced religion down their necks with muskets hundreds of years ago to “civilize” them.
The tacit agreement is they can avail themselves of emergency rooms and a limited amount of other social services and our hamburgers and salads don’t cost fifty bucks a pop.
We absolutely enjoy this transaction whether we’re aware of it or not.
It’s the most disgusting thing I’ve ever observed about American culture save for the open air practice of slavery.
And here’s what flat out amazes me.  It’s the number one republican campaign issue.  Number fucking one.  Of all the issues facing us, like our survival as a species, perpetual war and America’s own very real potential for becoming a third world country, this is what the mouth breathers are screeching about.  Something like half of us are self righteously indignant enough about brown people to somehow single them out for costing us a few dollars a month for the services they provide at an insane bargain rate.
What the fuck is wrong with us?
Like any of them would risk voting or reporting a crime or trying to get food stamps or welfare.
So once again half of us are so consumed with worry about this “problem” of our own device, it’s become a single issue litmus test for every single republican candidate.
Stupid.
There is one racist prick jackmammering the rest of us with this message and instead of calling him on it, the republican bench struggles to say the stupidest shit they can think of hoping for a spotlight in his venue.  It’s like they all fell off a truck he was driving and can’t think of anything but to chase it.
Pathetic.
Drinks for my friends.

Marriage Has Nothing To Do With Religion

It really is amazing listening to the debate about marriage equality. The fact that so many feel gays and lesbians getting married affects them personally and goes against their personal religion really is quite incredible. The argument that a marriage between two people affects anyone besides those two people is just ridiculous. However, there they are– these “defenders” of marriage.
But here’s the thing — when it comes down to the nuts and bolts of the ACTUAL institution of marriage. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with religion. I mean, of course, it can in your personal life, and you can have a wedding at a church and exchange your personal vows under whatever God you want if that suits your fancy, but in regards to what marriage actually is, religion isn’t required.
If you need further proof of this, here are some reasons that may open your eyes to the actual institution of marriage, and why marriage equality is so necessary.
The most obvious reason marriage has nothing to do with religion is the fact that marriage certificates are not given out by the church, they are given out by the state. “By the power invested in me, by the state of _____, I now pronounce you…. ” The power isn’t granted by God, it’s granted by government. So when certain states took it upon themselves to deny marriage to specific individuals based upon sexual orientation, it’s in direct violation of the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. And with the government granted marriage certificate comes over 1,100 rights and protections. Yes, 1,100. That’s a big number, isn’t it? That’s what same-sex couples were denied for so long. Now you might see why the Supreme Court ruled the way they did.

Bernie Sanders Could Become President ... from ABC's This Week With George Stephanopoulos

Bernie Sanders could become our President, admits ABC show!

Bernie Sanders could not only win the Democratic nomination easily but could become the next President of the United States according to political analysts at This Week With George Stephanopoulos on ABC aired September 6, 2015. Bernie Sanders is also highly praised and found to be highly electable by the Roundtable comments made by analysts like Katrina vanden Heuvel and Matthew Dowd. ABC's Feeling The Bern! They also criticize the free air time attention that the media keeps giving Trump instead of Bernie Sanders who brings serious solutions that people want. Interesting ... Trump's Immigration Plan Explained and Lauded

FLOODGATES OPEN: TOP DEMOCRAT PROFESSOR SAYS ‘I’VE NEVER SEEN ANY POLITICIAN’ WITH BETTER PLAN

Demonstrating the broad appeal of his in-depth immigration plan released Sunday, Trump’s proposal has won the accolades of one of the nation’s leading experts on the H-1B visas program. The H-1B is a visa designed to provided corporations with cheaper and less experienced guest workers to fill technology jobs.
Norm Matloff, a professor at UC Davis, has written extensively about H-1B visa abuses, and his work is widely cited in the H-1B reform community.
Matloff, a self-described Democrat and “longtime admirer of
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)16%,” gave Donald Trump’s H-1B policy “an A+” and was pleased that the Republican front runner was willing to take aim at the Republican establishment’s preferred candidate,
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) Rubio is pushing a plan to triple H-1B visas so that corporations can more easily import substitute guest workers.
As Matloff wrote in a blog last night:
Presidential candidate Donald Trump stunned the H-1B visa watcher community today with his platform on immigration. which includes surprisingly detailed, helpful provisions regarding H-1B… On H-1B, the man gets an A+. I’ve never seen any politician, even Tom Tancredo, put up such an effective platform as Trump has. He decries that most of the visas go to the bottom two (out of four) wage levels in the legal requirements for H-1B, recognizing that the unrealistic prevailing wage law is at the heart of the problem. He insists that employers be required to give hiring priority to Americans. Most important to me is that, at least as stated, these provisions would go a long way to stem the visa abuse by not only the “Infosyses” (rent–a-programmer firms) but also the Intels, who are just as culpable. One nice added touch: He refers to pro-H-1B Senator Rubio as “Mark Zuckerberg’s personal senator.
Matloff writes that Trump’s platform distinguishes from politicians on both the left and right:
Trump says in his platform what no other politician, including Sanders, is willing to say: Immigration is great in sensible quantities, but in its present form, both legal and illegal, it’s hammering the lower and middle classes. Take for example the high black and Latino unemployment rates. The Democrats say the solution is education and the Republicans say the path is lower taxes and regulation, and though both may have points, Trump states the obvious — bringing in large numbers of low-skilled immigrants is going to harm the most vulnerable people in our society, our own low-skilled (including earlier immigrants)… Latino activists don’t seem to care, nor do their allies in the Democratic Party care. I haven’t heard a peep out of
Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL)
20%
about the blight that the immigration-swelled labor market brings on the Latino community. Indeed, the Latino activists want to shut down talk of harm to American low-skilled workers… I say, ‘¡Arriba Señor Trump!’… Immigration policy must be a sensible one that is beneficial to those already here. We need a national dialog on the issue, not selfish posturing by politicians. Hopefully Trump’s platform will lead to a broader — and more honest! — dialog on this crucial topic.
Matloff’s praise is echoed by NumbersUSA–a nonpartisan group that calls for immigration moderation–and conservative activists alike.
Conservative icon Ann Coulter and author of new book Adios America has called Trump’s policy paper, “The greatest political document since the Magna Carta.”
Tea Party co-founder, Mark Meckler, writes:
Trump sets the standard for specificity in his immigration plan that all the other candidates will now have to meet. His immigration plan will resonate with a broad cross-section of grassroots voters, particularly tea party and conservative voters and this will benefit him in the primaries and caucuses. Love it or hate it, everyone else is now playing catch-up.
Conservative HQ editor, George Rasley writes:
The ‘donor class’ of the Republican (and Democratic) Party – whom [Alabama Senator Jeff] Sessions calls the ‘Masters of the Universe’—are losing influence in a big way over the Republican Party. Their candidates, Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, have been fading so fast under the heat of the conservative populist message of Donald Trump…
By embracing a platform of immigration moderation — i.e. returning immigration to lower, more normal historical levels from today’s surging record highs — Trump could begin to see increased support from a wide range of voters. For instance, polls from Fox News and Gallup show that Americans — by a 2-to-1 ratio — want to see visa issuances reduced. A 2012 Pew Poll found that 69 percent of Americans want to place greater restrictions on who was allowed into the United States. A recent poll from Kellyanne Conway found that a plurality of Americans wish to see a moratorium on immigration for the time being. And a separate poll by KellyAnne Conway found that Hispanics, by nearly a seven to one ratio, want employers to hire workers already in the country rather than importing foreign workers to fill jobs. Black voters support this measure by a ratio of almost 30 to 1. As Matloff explains, both of these groups suffer every day from the federal government’s policy of adding millions of new competitors to the labor pool.
The immigrant to population ratio is already at its highest level in 105 years, since during the height of the European immigration wave. The Census Bureau forecasts that in a few years, driven by our visa issuances to poor countries, the immigrant to population ratio will explode past all known historical markers.

Links to Planned Parenthood Regarding Fetal Tissue Donations UPDATED.

Politifact weighs in on the latest uproar about Planned Parenthood and fetal tissue donations. This is a result of a video that appeared on the internet this week that shows a Planned Parenthood executive discussing fetal tissue donations with some actors who were under the guise of representing a research facility that was interested in a purchase of fetal tissue.

In the past few days I have posted information on FaceBook that I culled from various sources, and last night I was holding my own in an active live discussion with someone I grew up with from my little country hometown. I guess I wore him out, because it was late and he disappeared.

Today he asked me for the information that supported what I was saying.  So, I went to Google of course. All I did was type "fetal tissue donations through Planned Parenthood" and there were all the links anyone could read. Here are the first few that seem legitimate to me. You are welcome to do your own research if you have more questions.

The first article is from PolitiFact.com and is written by Stephanie Armour.

Start here:  Politifact Sheet: Eight Things To Know About The Planned Parenthood Controversy.

"Planned Parenthood: How Ethical Is Fetal Tissue Donation?" by Rachael Rettner. She is the Senior Writer for www.livescience.com.

Finally, I liked this article from the Wall Street Journal:  5 Things to Know About Planned Parenthood

Keeping knowledgeable about political issues is kind of like a hobby with me. I enjoy reading and learning about all kinds of topics and then I share them with basically anyone who wants the info. Always a teacher ... what can I say?

UPDATE:
The second Republican debate was last night and Carly Fiorino had some comments about Planned Parenthood that Politifact checked out today. Yep, what she said is false. Here is the link for this one HERE.

2016 Primary Schedule | 2016 Election Central

I am a Bernie Sanders fan and have been hanging out on several Bernie FaceBook pages that are growing like wildfire. People are starting to pay attention and everyone is energized and passionate about what they are discovering. It's very interesting.

I learned the ropes in the 2008 Presidential Race. I was a passionate newbie, so maybe it's my turn to guide the novices this cycle. Here is a good reference for pacing your involvement - state-by-state Primary dates. They are still being finalized, but you can get updates by subscribing to the site.

Bernie Sanders in Madison, Wisconsin 07-01-2015

If you have been paying attention lately, there is a pretty exciting Democratic candidate who dares to tell the truth and won't take money for favors.

Straight shooter Bernie Sanders, who describes himself as a Democratic Socialist, had over 10,000 enthusiastic supporters at his Madison, WI rally last night.

His speech is about an hour long. Watch it all the way through to get a really good idea about what Bernie has planned for America when he's elected President in 2016.

He will need help though, so think about getting involved in this movement. We have a lot of work to do!

Sixth Great Mass Extinction Event Begins ...

From everything I've read about Climate Change,

I believe that we are definitely on a trend into the scary part of the unknown. Watching the planet and its inhabitants evolve over time ... my lifetime ... is of great interest to me.

If I am anything, I am a student of my own life. How I perceive and interact in this world determines who I am. I typically spend several hours a day reading about all kinds of eclectic topics. Environmental news is attractive because I know my very existence as a human may depend on it ... you know, be aware of your surroundings.

I am currently living in central California, which is smack-dab in the middle of a drought. It's 108 degrees today. We are reclaiming the desert at an alarming rate.

Having this blog is part of my process. I might have told you before, but this little blog is like a file cabinet for me. I throw stuff in here to keep for awhile. Reference material. Things that amuse me or strike a chord.

Which brings me to this Sixth Great Mass-Extinction Event that is kicking off this year.

I remain an optimist and am betting on the human race to wake up and begin to make better choices toward sustainability if not survival.

I have no idea what will happen over a great amount of time. I am 69 years old, so how many years do I have? Maybe one of the grandkids will find this interesting ... an old relic from the past. Who knows?

Read about it here.

Don't Fence In Gary Cooper

Don’t Fence In Gary Cooper

Don’t fence in Gary Cooper
Let him ride the range alone
He’s content to be in the saddle
With endless days to roam

And when he gets a bit thirsty
He’ll pack up all his gear
And head his horse for the next town
To drink a bottle of beer

Don’t fence in Gary Cooper
Let him drink his beer alone
He’s happiest when he’s single
He’s not looking for a home

So put your ribbons away girl
Go back to mopping the floor
Your cowboy’s not a lover
He’s walking out the door

Don’t fence in Gary Cooper
He’s the one you’ll never get
Just wave goodbye and give a sigh
And let him ride off into the sunset

Chris Christie: The Most Corrupt Governor in America

Thanks Bob Cesca!

Now that former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has been yanked out of political circulation with his two-year prison sentence, Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) can officially ascend to the post of the Most Corrupt Governor In America. Seriously, mark your calendars because Sunday’s playoff game in Dallas heralded the end of the Christie presidential campaign — that is if it ever existed in the first place.
And of course it wasn’t just the super awkward owner’s box celebration during which Christie, evidently dressed in Fat Albert cosplay, lovingly embraced Jerry Jones and some other guy after the Cowboys clinched the wildcard victory. The freeze frame looks like it’s from the end of a wacky 1980s prime time sitcom, just before the credits roll. Have we actually seen Christie hug another human being, like, ever? Not that I can recall, which made his effusive PDA look even more awkward since he only ever gets that close to other humans in order to hector them at the boardwalk. Oh, and during that brief moment in which Jones denied Christie’s attempt at a high-five, it made Christie look like a wormy, tag-along sidekick who’s desperately seeking approval from the cool kids — and not getting it.
Not a very presidential moment, to say the least.
